De Havilland Tiger Moth History

As seen from the perspective of a student pilot, the de Havilland Tiger Moth proved to be a notably stable and forgiving aircraft, with few handling challenges and a tolerant attitude towards novice pilot errors. It swiftly earned a reputation as an "easy plane to fly, but difficult to master," making it a suitable choice as a primary/basic trainer for numerous pilots destined to fly during WWII.

During the war's onset, the RAF boasted approximately 500 Tiger Moths in operation, but their demand led to the requisition of hundreds more from flying clubs across the country. This wide availability and the aircraft's favorable flying characteristics made it an ideal training platform for aspiring operational pilots during WWII.
