Eastern Suburbs Scale Modeling Club

Established in 1990 and known simply as “Eastern Suburbs” the club has members from all over the city and even further afield. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) from 7:30pm at Box Hill Community Arts Centre on the corner of Station Street and Combarton Road, Box Hill 3128 (Melway 47/D11).
Membership costs $30 annually for adults and $15 for juniors – there are no other fixed expenses, even the tea and coffee is free! Prospective members should call Peter (9725-5480) or Brian (9878-6136) or simply turn up at a meeting. The club caters to anyone interested in the hobby of scale modelling and there are no restrictions whatsoever to the genre or material. Meetings are held in an informal and laid back atmosphere and nothing is taken too seriously – especially competition.
Our main emphasis is on enjoyment of the hobby and a free exchange of ideas and techniques. Visitors and new members are warmly welcomed in a friendly and non-critical atmosphere and nitpickers and rivet-counters are ignored. A raffle with at least three quality kit prizes is held at every meeting. ESSMC runs an annual model show called ‘Art of the Modeller’ every October as part of the Whitehorse Spring Festival in Nunawading to showcase our own work and that of guest exhibitors. The main thrust of this show is on promoting our hobby to the general public, and young people in particular, rather than the established modelling community and entry is free. We also organize trips to places and events of interest, which are largely subsidised by club funds.
