The Flugabwehrkanone (Flak) by 88 mm anti-aircraft guns was one of the most successful of the Second World War. Was used by both the Luftwaffe, for the defense of German territory against enemy raids areas, both within the Wehrmacht anti-aircraft artillery division.

Each division of the Wehrmacht had in fact, inside, one group against with 8 pieces of 88 mm. and 12 pieces of 20 mm. General Rommel, however, was among the first to use during the French campaign of May 1940, the Flak 88 for an alternative role to that for which it was designed.

The Flak 88 mm in fact became the most famous and feared anti-tank gun used by the Axis troops in World War II. During the defense Halfaya Pass in North Africa, one battery of guns of the Wehrmacht Flak 88 destroyed in minutes, 11 of the 12 British tanks rushing into the German positions. The pass became known among the British tank crewmen as Hellfire Pass. The Flak 88 was used until the end of the war on all fronts and with his dual role as antiaircraft and antitank.
