Early in the 1980s, work on the Sukhoi S-47 began with the intention of constructing a comprehensive modernization of the highly successful Su-27 aircraft. The Suchoj firm finished the project independently after numerous setbacks and interruptions due to financial issues, and the final machine was displayed in 1999. But instead of being produced in large quantities, the plane served as a technological demonstrator. Moreover, the negative skew of the wings, which has various benefits, including increased manoeuvrability at speeds of roughly 1 Ma and the capacity to use less fuel, distinguishes the machine.
The Berkut Golden Eagle is a test machine for new aviation technology. Even though the basic dimensions and weight of the S-37 Berkut and Su-37 look similar, they are different aircraft. The tail, nose, and canopy resemble those of the Su-35. The S-37 designation was previously given to an unrelated fighter project for a smaller delta-wing single aircraft that was cancelled for lack of financing. The first two prototypes of this aircraft were obviously labelled the S-32.
