The Boeing EA-18G Growler was made to meet specific U.S. Navy criteria, aiming to introduce a specialised carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft as a replacement for the outdated Grumman EA-6B Prowler. Derived directly from the tandem-seat fighter F/A-18F Super Hornet, the Growler preserves all key aerodynamic features and characteristics of its predecessor.

Propelled by General Electric engines, the Growler achieves a maximum speed of Mach 1.8, mirroring the flight performance of the primary carrier-based aircraft. The 2-man crew has a pilot and a Weapon System Officer (WSO). Departing from the F/A-18's 20 mm cannon, the Growler is equipped with a dedicated electronic warfare system. Furthermore, it's hard points allow for the attachment of high and low band jamming pods, extra fuel tanks, and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles.
