Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B

The Blackburn Buccaneer S 2B was a British carrier-capable strike jet popular for its speed and low-level attack capabilities. The S 2B was a variant of the S.2 made for RAF groups. It could carry the Martel missile for anti-radar or anti-ship use.

Seven years after its introduction with the Royal Navy, the Blackburn Company saw its Blackburn Buccaneer enter service with the RAF. 26 new aircraft were ordered at first, marked as S.Mk.2B. They had several notable distinctions from their naval counterparts.

Despite initial reluctance from the Royal Air Force toward the aircraft, the Buccaneer proved its worth, becoming highly valued for its capabilities. Around retirement, the RAF hesitated to part with these aircraft they once overlooked. The camouflaged Buccaneers quickly demonstrated their worth, rejecting any thought of being a second choice aircraft.

Between 1973 and 1977, forty-six were built, plus three for Ministry of Defence tests.
